Ocean Art Day 2024
Today we celebrated Ocean Art Day across the whole school. To mark this occasion, every year group created a collaborative piece of art inspired by local artists. Deep Impressions is a mother & daughter artist team who have been painting together for over 20 years. As snorkellers and divers and coming from a diving family, they love to be in the ocean seeking inspiration for their art. Kim & Kay Vaudin say “Through painting we hope to remind people of their own connection to the sea and in doing so reinforce the crucial importance of conserving our oceans and ideally help to promote sustainable marine life management.”
Each Year group was allocated a piece of artwork as their inspiration.
- Foundation the children explored the artwork called 'Plankton'
- Year One and Two explored the artwork called 'Bubble Wave'
- Year Three and Four explored the artwork ‘Sea Life Wave II'
- Year Five explored the artwork ‘Diver’
- Year Six explored the artwork ‘Doris, Sea Goddess’.
We began by completing an artist study. We found out all about Kay and Kim and presented our research in our own way. Here we explored the colours, lines, patterns, shapes and textures we could see in the artwork.
Throughout the day we explored working with acrylic paint and the different ways it could be applied. In the afternoon, we explored drawing sea creatures from a different perspective. Here is a sneak peek!
When finished, our artwork will be displayed in the main hall for all to see.
