An autumn leaf in a child's hand

News and Updates

At Thornbury, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve great things. That's why we are committed to providing a dynamic, supportive learning environment that helps our pupils thrive.

Foundation - Our Learning - 2nd December

Maths:

This week, we have been developing our subitising skills by finding and representing numbers between 1 - 5.

There was a chance to develop this in our choosing time.

We really enjoyed practising our subitising skills in the outdoor area by completing a number hunt.

Literacy:

This week we are writing our own sentences linked to the Little Red Hen. The challenge is to use an orange word (who?) and yellow word (what doing?). We also have to remember our clear finger spaces and a full stop at the end of the sentence.

In the Sensory Tray, we have enjoyed creating our own gingerbread man. This was a great opportunity to work on our Fine Motor Skills and re-tell the story of the Gingerbread Man.

Reading:

This week, the children have really enjoyed sharing a book in the winter sun. It was wonderful listening to the children share in the joy of books. They talked about the characters and re-told the story in their own way. Well done for being Friendly Otters.

The Mark Making table is always a huge hit in the Continuous Provision. This week, the children have enjoyed using chalk on blue paper to draw winter patterns.

Christmas is on the way! In the Creative Area this week, the children could use the water sprays to squirt a little water on their bauble. Then they added tissue paper and watched in awe as the water made the colours mix. this created a beautiful pattern and each bauble is unique. This was a great opportunity to develop our Fine Motor Skills.

We have also had 2 visitors in class this week! Loveheart and Jill have delivered us an advent calendar and been playing in our learning areas. We have enjoyed writing to Santa to tell him all about Loveheart and Jill's adventures at Thornbury Primary School.
