An autumn leaf in a child's hand

News and Updates

At Thornbury, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve great things. That's why we are committed to providing a dynamic, supportive learning environment that helps our pupils thrive.

Foundation - Our Learning This Week

Have a look at some of the wonderful learning taking place in Foundation this week.

We have been planting some daffodil bulbs. At first, some of us thought it was an onion or lightbulb! We discussed how bulbs have lots of layers which keep them warm. This means they can stay in the ground over the Winter. We explored the bulb and found the roots and shoot. We hope to see our daffodils in the Spring!

This week, we have enjoyed using the sensory table to create our own soup using herbs. We used our fine motor skills such as cutting with scissors, squirting the spray bottles, using pipettes to pick up water and mixing with different kitchen tools. We enjoyed sharing our soup with our friends and discussing the smell.

Outside we used the coloured water to explore colour mixing. We found out we could make a new colour by mixing 2 together. Did you know blue and yellow make green? Again, we used our fine motor skills such squirting the spray bottles, using pipettes to pick up water and mixing with different kitchen tools.

As we move into our second full week, new friendships are being created. Everyday we are learning about what it means to be a Friendly Otter.

There are aways opportunities for mark making in everything we do. Here are some examples from this week.

Letter formation in the foam
Using different tools
Mark making outside
Linked to our learning about emotions.
We love the big mark making table
Using the drawing boards.

We have also been Creative Squirrels!
