Foundation - The Little Red Hen - Bread Making
On Monday, we arrived to school and found some ingredients with a sign that said 'make me'.

We used our detective skills to find out that these were the ingredients for making bread. We also listened to the Traditional Tale of The Little Red Hen. In the story the hen bakes bread with the flour she has made.
Today we made our own bread rolls!
We worked together to measure the ingredients. We had to be Connecting Spiders and use our Maths knowledge to make sure we put the correct amount of ingredients in.
We also had to use our fine motor skills to carefully pour, measure and mix the ingredients.
We loved baking together in a group and shared experiences where we have baked in the past.
Lots of lovely conversation was overhead during this activity.
Throughout the day we observed the yeast working and the rolls growing bigger.

On Thursday, we could eat them!
We thought about what we could add to our bread roll to make them extra delicious! We decided we wanted some butter.
Oh no! Mrs S forgot to get the butter from the shop.
The children suggested we should make our own. They suggested we needed milk because butter is made with milk. We put some double cream in a glass jar with some marbles. The jar was sealed and cleaned. We then took turns to shake the cream. We found out this is called churning the butter. We worked together and watched as the cream turned yellow and made butter.
The bread was delicious!
