An autumn leaf in a child's hand

News and Updates

At Thornbury, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve great things. That's why we are committed to providing a dynamic, supportive learning environment that helps our pupils thrive.

Message from Mrs Mantell

I am coming to the end of my first half term as Headteacher and to say it has been a busy few weeks is an understatement, but I have absolutely loved every minute of it!

As well as from our amazing Thornbury team, I have been so lucky to have support from so many members of the wider Trust. Having the opportunity to have regular check in and support meetings with ELT has been invaluable - turns out no question is too obvious! Extra thanks to Mr Nicholls (and the Widey team) for being here twice a week to help manage the load and being someone who is always there to give great advice.

There have been lots of changes here at Thornbury from increasing and improving the play opportunities that children have at playtimes and lunchtimes, to introducing weekly whole school reward assemblies and most exciting of all holding football trials to create 3 football teams. We can’t wait to join everyone for interschool competitions.

Relaunching our Facebook page has been really exciting, and it makes me so proud to look at it and really see the abundance of enriching learning opportunities that our children are receiving.

The feel around the school is positive and full of excitement from parents and carers, staff members and most importantly the children. I have had so many little visitors to my office to show me their learning; I love to see how proud they are of themselves.

I want to give particular thanks to the staff here for ‘going with it’ and giving their all to make some of our new ideas work. There are lots more changes to come on our journey – and I can’t wait to see what the next half term brings!
