Trip - Year 1 and 2's visit to The Box Museum
This week, Year 1 and 2 have enjoyed their trip to The Box. They we were Connecting Spiders as we made links to our prior learning and Curious Cats as we asked questions to find out new information.
We found a real life Barbara Hepworth sculpture! We talked about the shapes we could see and the materials she used. We made careful observations and enjoyed the sculpture from different viewpoints.
We enjoyed visiting the different exhibits at The Box. In the nature room we made links with our science learning about animals. We found and compared teeth from herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.
In the ‘100 journeys’ exhibit we learnt about Sir Francis Drake and other explorers. This will help with our history unit this term.
We loved the new ocean exhibit and asked lots of questions about ocean pollution. We found lots of interesting art using found objects. This will help with our Ocean Curriculum work.
Having our picnic lunch in our outdoor huts was a nice treat.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed using clay to create a 3D form. We started by exploring how to mould, twist and change the shape of the clay. Then we looked at how to use different tools to add texture to the clay, this is called imprinting and carving. Finally, we used these skills to make a pinch pot.
It was a busy day but the staff were so proud of the children’s exceptional behaviour and learning today. Well done Year 1 and 2!
